[New York - mutants and the humans have been gathered by an army of robots to be killed]
Professor X: (Voice Over) The future, a dark, desolate world. A world of war, suffering, loss on both sides. Mutants, and the humans who dared to help them, fighting an enemy we cannot defeat. [a young mutant is seen walking through piles of dirt and carcasses] Are we destined down this path? Destined to destroy ourselves like so many species before us? Or can we evolve fast enough to change ourselves, change our fate?
[the mutant kneels down and brushes off some dirt on the ground from an object with the Mutant Academy's X on it. Suddenly there's a low rumbling noise, and as the mutant turns to see what it is a light is flashed across the mutant's face]
Professor X: Is the future truly set?
[cue Main Titles]
[in Moscow a mutant, Warpath, spots several pods carrying robots and dropping them near the building they're ransacking]
Warpath: They're here!
[he joins another mutant, Blink. Using her powers she opens a portal to transport them to the lower level to warn their fellow mutants: Colossus, Sunspot, Bishop and Kitty Pryde]
Blink: Time's up.
[Sunspot uses his power to create solar power energy which Bishop uses with his powers to absorb and power up his weapon]
Kitty: Let's go.
[Bishop and Kitty start running and Kitty uses her power so that she and Bishop can phases through walls as the others wait to fight the Sentinels. When they arrive the team of mutants begin to fight the Sentinels. Bobby/Iceman also arrives to join them, but the Sentinels kill them all by latching onto the mutants to adapt to their powers, copying them and use their powers against them]
[Kitty takes Bishop into a vault and starts to create a link with his consciousness. At the same time Blink goes to help Warpath fight the Sentinels when one of them strikes her down]
Warpath: Blink! No!
[she falls and dies. The remaining Sentinels quickly kill Warpath as he tries to protect the vault, and one of the Sentinels breaks into the vault]
Kitty: Too late, assholes.
[just as the Sentinel is about to kill Bishop and Kitty they disappear as they are transported out of there]
Guard: Don't move, you mutant scum!
Guard: Flat on the ground, hands behind your head!
[Professor X is using his powers to find other mutants]
Professor X: (Voice Over) So few of us left.
Professor X: I've found them.
[an X-Jet descends in China to where Professor X, Storm, Logan and Magneto dismount at a monastery, they are met by Bishop, Sunspot and Warpath, who are both alive]
[then we see Bobby, who is also alive]
Bobby: Hey, Storm.
Wolverine: Hey, kid.
[Bobby nods his head to Logan]
Kitty: Professor, you made it.
[she joins them along with Colossus, who is also alive]
Kitty: Whenever the Sentinels attack, Warpath spots them... then I send Bishop back to warn us of the attack before it happens. Blink scouts the exit site... and then we leave before they ever know we were there.
Warpath: Because... we never were.
Wolverine: What do you mean you were never there?
Professor X: She projects Bishop back in time a few days to warn the others... of the coming attack.
Wolverine: So she needs Bishop back in time?
Professor X: No, just his consciousness, into his younger self. His younger body.
Magneto: This might just work, Charles.
Kitty: What might work?
Professor X: The Sentinel program was originally conceived by Doctor Bolivar Trask. In the early '70's, he was one of the world's leading weapons designers. But, covertly, he had begun experimenting on mutants... using their gifts to fuel his own research.
Trask(flashback): This is extraordinary.
Professor X: There was one mutant who has discovered what he was doing.
Magneto: A mutant with the ability to transform herself into anyone.
Professor X: I knew her as Raven. We me when we were children, grew up together. She was like a sister to me. I tried to help her... but only succeeded in driving her away. She haunted Trask across the world. And at the Paris Peace Accords in 1973, after the Vietnam War, she found Trask... and killed him. It was the first time she killed.
Wolverine: It wasn't her last.
Professor X: But killing Trask did not have the outcome she expected. It only persuaded the government of the need for his program. They captured her that day... tortured her, experimented on her. In her DNA, they discovered the secrets to her powers of transformation. It gave them the key they needed, to create weapons that could adapt to any mutant power. And in less than 50 years, the machines that have destroyed so many of our kind were created. But it all started that day in 1973, the day she first killed, the day she truly became... Mystique.
Kitty: You want to go back there.
Professor X: If I can get to her, stop the assassination... keep her out off their hands... then we can stop the Sentinels from ever being born.
Magneto: And end this war before it ever begins.
Kitty: Uh, I can send someone back a couple weeks. Maybe a month. But you're talking about going back decades. You have the the most powerful brain in the world, Professor... but the mind can only stretch so far before it snaps. It would you rip apart. I'm sorry. No one could survive that trip.
Wolverine: What if someone's mind has a way of snapping back? What if someone can heal as fast as they're ripped apart?
[outside the monastery as they prepare to protect Logan as he goes back in time]
Storm: Okay, spread out.
Bishop: Take your positions.
[Being prepped for time travel inside the monastery, while the remaining X-Men and the Free Mutants lead by Bishop and Warpath stand guard outside keeping a look out for Sentinels.]
Wolverine: So I wake up in my younger body, God knows where. Then what?
Professor X: You'll need to go to my house and find me. Convince me of all of this.
Wolverine: Won't you be able to just read my mind?
Professor X: I didn't have my powers in 1973. Logan, you're going to have to do for me what I once did for you. Lead me, guide me. I was a very different man then. You'll have to be patient with me.
Wolverine: Patience is my strongest suit.
Magneto: You'll need me as well.
Magneto: After Mystique left Charles, she came with me... and I set her on a dangerous path. A darker path. It's going to take the two of us, side by side... at a time when we couldn't be further apart.
[Professor X agrees with Magneto.]
Wolverine: Great. So where do I find you?
Magneto: Well, it's complicated.
[Logan is lying down as Kitty prepares him]
Kitty: Basically, your body will go to sleep. While your mind travels back in time. As long as you're back there, past and present will continue to coexist. But you once wake up... whatever you've done will take hold and become history. And for the rest of us, it will be the only history that we know. It will be like the last that 50 years never happened. And this world, and this war... the only person who remember it is you. All right, Logan... I need you to clear your head and to stay as calm as possible.
Wolverine: What? What do you mean?
Kitty: If your mind gets rocky, it will be harder for me to hold you... and you could start to slip between past and future.
Wolverine: What if I need to get a little rocky?
Kitty: Think peaceful thoughts?
Wolverine: Peaceful thoughts... Do you have any good news?
Kitty: Well, you don't really age, so you'll pretty much look the same.
Bobby: You won't have much the time in the past. The Sentinels will find us. They always do.
Kitty: And this time, we won't be able to run. We'll have no escape. This is our last chance!
Magneto: You really think this work?
Professor X: I have faith in him. It's not him I'm worried about, it's us.
Magneto: We were young... we didn't know any better.
Professor X: We will now.
Wolverine: See you all soon.
Kitty: This might sting a little.
[as Kitty forms the link to Logan's consciousness he yells out in pain and his claws extend]
[Logan wakes up in 1973 and the first thing he sees is a lava lamp, he finds himself lying naked in a waterbed next to a woman, he rises and goes to look at himself in the mirror, then looks out the window to see a busy city in 70's]
Past Wolverine: Whoa. Holy shit. It worked. Hey, what's going on?
Ramone: Gwen get dressed.
Past Wolverine: Who the hell are you? Hey, I don't know what's going on.
Ramone: What's going on you're supposed to be guarding the boss's daughter not screwing her.
Past Wolverine: Well, I didn't sleep with her.
Past Wolverine: No. I mean, yes, I slept with her many times.
Past Wolverine: That wasn't me. That was the old me. I just got here 20 seconds ago.
Ramone: Really? Then what happened to your clothes?
Past Wolverine: My... Oh. Would you believe me if I told you I was sent here from the future?
Ramone: Get out of here, sweetheart.
Past Wolverine: Yeah.
Ramone: We're gonna take care of this comedian.
Past Wolverine: No, you're not. You're gonna give me the keys to your car and some money for gas... or you're gonna wake me up in the hospital. Trust me, I know how these things play out.
Ramone: Oh. Because you're from the future?
Past Wolverine: No. Because of these. What the hell? God damn it! Peaceful thoughts.
[in Washington D.C., Trask is meeting with Congress to lobby his Sentinel program]
Senator Brickman: We are reviewing all of our defense expenditures... and all the black books are being opened. We can't support a weapon that targets our own citizens. If these mutants as you describe... are already living among us... then they are living here peacefully. We haven't had an incident in over 10 years.
Senator Parker: After what happened in Cuba? That was never confirmed. [Addressing Trask] We have very real enemies out there: The Russians, the Chinese.
Senator Brickman: We are talking about a tenth of a tenth... of a tenth population.
Dr. Trask: Allow me to read something to you.
Senator Parker: Please.
Dr. Trask: This was acquired by our friends at the CIA. [Opening a folder] It's a dissertation written by a mutant at Oxford University and I quote "To Homo Neanderthalensis, his mutant cousin: Homo Sapiens, which is us, was an aberration. The arrival of the mutated human species, Homo Sapiens, was followed by the immediate extinction of their less evolved kin." [Closes the folder] Well, now we are the Neanderthal.
[Members of Congress laugh quietly]
Senator Brickman: Speak for yourself, Dr. Trask. [there's a low chuckle by Trask and some of the congressmen]
Dr. Trask: [Warning Congress] You know, when you sent our soldiers to Vietnam without the weapons they needed to win the war, you underestimated your enemy. You do that with this enemy and it won't be some border skirmish halfway around the world. This time, the war will be for our streets, our cities, our homes. By the time you see the need for my program, it'll be too late and you'll have lost two wars in one lifetime.
Senator Brickman: [Believing Trask is insane and paranoid] We're sorry Dr. Trask, but your Sentinel Program it ain't going to fly!
[Saigon - Colonel Sanders arrives at a quarantined tent guarded by MP's]
Soldier: Can I help you, Colonel?
Colonel: Just here to give our boys a proper send-off.
Soldier: I'm sorry, sir, but we have orders. This is a quarantined area.
Colonel: Stand aside, solider. That's an order. [the guards stand aside and open the doors to let Sanders through to the tent]
[the soldiers all rise]
Colonel: At ease. [as Sanders walks through the tent he looks at the mutant soldiers, he notices Alex Summers/Havok and winks at him, Alex looks at him with confusion, Strand goes over the doctor who's collecting blood samples] What's all this?
Soldier: Lab reports, blood tests. It's all getting packing up and shipped back.
Colonel: Where is it going?
Soldier: Same place they are. Trask Industries.
[Major William Stryker enters the tent]
Stryker: Let's go, gentlemen. I'm taking you out of this shit show.
Havok: Shipping home?
Stryker: Not just yet.
[another solider opens a case containing vials of drugs]
Toad: What are you doing with those?
Stryker: Something to make the ride a little smoother. I'm transferring you to a private facility... where we can run a few more tests.
[as the soldier prepares the injection Sanders walks over to Stryker]
Colonel: Your men are not military.
Stryker: Private outfit. [Stryker gives Sanders his paperwork] We're authorized to remand these men.
Colonel: [Sanders looks at the papers] Hmm. These troops are going home.
Stryker: Well, Colonel, I don't believe you have jurisdiction in this matter.
Colonel: I'm afraid I do, son.
Stryker: I'm sorry, who are you?
[Sanders turns Stryker's dog tags around to look at his name]
Colonel: The question is, Major... ...who are you?
[suddenly Sanders turns into Mystique, she and the other mutants take down the soldiers]
[as Stryker goes to grab his gun, Raven grabs hold of his throat and nearly strangles him]
Mystique: That's not my name. [before Raven kills Stryker Alex uses his power to release a plasma blast at Stryker who gets knocked out] I had that.
Havok: I know.
Mystique: Let's move out. Come on, let's go.
Havok: Where's Erik?
Mystique: I'm on my own now.
[as they walk out of the tent Raven has disguised herself by turning into Sanders again]
Soldier: Let's go! Move it!
Colonel: [Raven disguised as Sanders guides the mutant soldiers towards a plane which is about to take off] Hold that plane! [to the soldiers boarding the plane] Wouldn't wanna leave these boys in this god for saken country.
Soldier: Yes, sir.
Havok: You're not coming with us, are you?
Colonel: My war's not over. The enemy is still out there.
Stryker: [as Alex boards the plane, Sanders starts walking away and then transforms into Raven dressed in military clothes, at the same time Stryker walks out of the tent to look for them] Where did they go? [to the MP guards] The four privates, where did they go?
Soldier: They were headed towards the tarmac.
[Stryker heads towards the tarmac and watches in frustration as the plane takes off]
[Wolverine arrives at the X-Mansion which looks abandoned and run down, he notices the sign for Xavier School fallen on the ground, he drives to the front door, gets out of his car and knocks on the front door which is opened by Hank McCoy / Beast]
Hank: Can I help you?
Past Wolverine: Uh... Yeah, what happened to the school?
Hank: The school's been shut for years. Are you a parent?
Past Wolverine:[scoffs] I sure as hell hope not. Who are you?
Hank: I'm Hank. Hank McCoy. I look after the house now.
Past Wolverine: [smiles] You're Beast? Look at you. I guess you're a late bloomer.
Hank: I don't know what you're talking about, but I'm gonna ask you to leave. [tries to shut the door]
Past Wolverine: [pushes against door] So where's the Professor?
Hank: There's no professor here.
Past Wolverine: [as Logan keeps pushing against the door and Hank pushes back to close it] You're pretty strong for a scrawny kid. You sure there's not a little Beast in there?
Hank: [struggling] No, he's not here.
Past Wolverine: Come on, Beast. Come on, Beastie.
Hank: No. [gives way as Logan bursts through door] [Logan finally manages to push through the door and enter the house] [as Logan pushes past Hank and enters X-Mansion] Hey! Is said the school's closed. You need to leave.
Past Wolverine: Not until I see the Professor.
Hank: [Hank grabs Logan by his shoulder and turns him round] There's no Professor here, I told you that.
Past Wolverine: [To Hank] Look, kid. You and I gonna be good friends... [suddenly Logan punches Hank in the face making him fall to the ground] [Hank watches in pain as Logan goes to search for the Professor] Professor! [Hank looking angry, Hank turns into his Beast form] [Logan walks through a corridor] Professor!
[Suddenly Hank in his Beat form attacks Logan and throws him down the stairs, he hangs on the chandelier ready to strike Logan when they are interrupted by young Charles Xavier]
Young Charles: Hank? What's going on here?
[Logan watches as Charles walks down the stairs, wearing his dressing gown and looking disheveled]
Past Wolverine: Professor?
Young Charles: Please don't call me that.
Beast: Why? You know this guy?
Young Charles: Yeah, he looks sightly familiar. Get off the bloody chandelier, Hank.
[Hank dismounts from the chandelier]
Past Wolverine: You can walk?
Young Charles: You're a perceptive one.
Past Wolverine: I thought Erik...
Young Charles: Which makes it slightly perplexing that you missed our sign on the way in. This is private property, my friend. I'm gonna have to ask him to ask you to leave.
Past Wolverine: Well. I'm afraid I can't do that... because I was sent here for you.
Young Charles: Well, tell whoever it was sent you that I'm busy.
Past Wolverine: That's gonna be a little tricky... because the person who sent me was you.
Young Charles: What?
Past Wolverine: About 50 years from now.
Young Charles: Like in the future, 50 years from now?
Past Wolverine: Yeah.
Young Charles: I sent you from the future?
Past Wolverine: Yeah.
Young Charles: Piss off.
Past Wolverine: If you had powers, you'd know I was telling the truth.
Young Charles: How do you know I don't have p... Who are you?
Past Wolverine: I told you.
Young Charles: Are you CIA?
Past Wolverine: No.
Young Charles: You've been watching me?
Past Wolverine: I know you, Charles. We've been friends for years. I know your powers came when you were 9. I know you thought you were going crazy when it started... all the voices in your head. And it wasn't until you were 12... that you realized all the voices were in everyone else's head. Do you want me to go on?
[Charles looks confused and shocked]
Young Charles: I never told anyone that.
Past Wolverine: No, yet, no, but, you will.
Young Charles: All right, you've piqued my interest. What do you want?
Past Wolverine: We have to stop Raven. I need your help. We need your help.
Young Charles: [emotional] I think I'd like to wake up now. [walks away]
[Charles walks turns and walks into the next room]
Hank: [To Logan] What does she have to do with this?
[Logan watches as Hank turns back into his human form]
Young Charles: So you're saying... they took Raven's power, and what? They weaponized it?
Past Wolverine: Yep.
Hank: She is unique.
Young Charles: Yeah, she is, Hank.
Past Wolverine: In the beginning the Sentinels were just targeting mutants, then they began to identify the genetics in non-mutants who'd eventually have mutant children or grandchildren. Then they started targeting everybody. Many of the humans tried to help us, it was a slaughter. Leaving only the worst of humanity in charge. I've been in a lot of wars, I've never seen anything like this. And it all starts with her.
Young Charles: Let's just say for the sake of... the sake, that I choose to believe you... that I choose to help you. Raven won't listen to me. Her heat and soul belong to someone else now.
Past Wolverine: I know. That's why we're gonna need Magneto, too.
Young Charles: Erik?
Hank: You do know where Erik is?
Past Wolverine: Yeah.
[Charles laughs harder then starts to walk out of the room]
Young Charles: He's where he belongs.
Past Wolverine: You're just gonna walk out?
Young Charles: Ooh, top marks. Like I said, you are perceptive.
Past Wolverine: The Professor I know would never turn his back... on someone who'd lost their path. Especially someone he loved.
Young Charles: [To Logan] You know, I think I do remember you now. Yeah... We came to you a long time ago seeking your help. And I'm gonna say to you what you said to us then: Fuck off!
[Logan angrily grabs hold of Charles]
Past Wolverine: Listen to me, you little shit. I've come a long way, and I've watched a lot of people die. Good people. Friends. If you're gonna wallow in self-pity... and do nothing, then you're gonna watch the same thing... you understand?
[Logan let's go of Charles]
Young Charles: We all have to die sometime.
[Charles turns and walks off and goes back up stairs to his room]
Hank: Told you there's no professor here.
Past Wolverine: What the hell happened to him?
Hank: He lost everything. Erik, Raven... his legs. We built this school, the labs, this whole place... then, just after the first semester... the war in Vietnam got worse. Many of the teachers... and older students were drafted. It broke him. He retreated himself. I wanted to help, do something... so I designed a serum to treat his spine... derived from the same formula that helps me control my mutation. I take just enough to keep myself balanced... but he takes too much. I tried easing him back... but he just couldn't bear the pain, the voices. The treatment gives him his legs... but its not enough. He's... He's just lost too much.
[in his room, after he's taken another shot of Hank's serum, Charles has flashback to when he first met Raven when they were children]
Young Raven: You're not scared of me?
Young Charles: I always believed I couldn't be the only one in the world. Charles Xavier.
Young Raven: Raven.
Young Charles: You're hungry and alone. Take whatever you want. We've got lots of food. You don't have to steal. In fact... you never have to steal again. And that's a promise.
[Charles joins Hank and Logan again]
Young Charles: I'll help you get her. Not for any of your future shite, but for her.
Past Wolverine: Fair enough.
Young Charles: But I'll tell you this. You don't know Erik. That man is a monster. A murderer. You think you can convice Raven to change? To come home? That's splendid. But what makes you thibk you can change him?
Past Wolverine: Because you and Erik sent me back together.
[we see Erik being held in a prison cell beneath the Pentagon]
Hank: The room they're holding him in was built during the Second World War... when there was a shortage of steel. So the foundation is pure concrete and sand. No metal.
Young Charles: He's being held... a hundred floors beneath the most heavily guarded building the planet.
Past Wolverine: Why is he in there?
Young Charles: What, he forgot to mention?
Hank: Uh, JFK.
Past Wolverine: he killed...
Young Charles: What else explains a bullet miraculously curving through the air? Erik's always had a way with guns. Are you sure you want to carry on with this?
Young Charles: This is your plan, not mine.
Hank: We don't have any resources to get us in.
Young Charles: Or out. It's just me and Hank.
Past Wolverine: I know a guy. Yeah, he'd be a young man now. Grew up outside of D.C. He could get into anywhere. I just don't know how the hell we're gonna find him.
[Hank looks at Charles]
Hank: Is Cerebro of the question? [Charles looks down] We have a phonebook.
[in the evening at Trask Industries Trask walks through to get to his office]
Sectary: I thought you'd be getting ready for your trip, sir?
Dr. Trask: I just came to grab a couple files. Is that a new scarf? It's nice.
Sectary: Thank you. Dr. Trask?
[As Trask walks up the stairs we see him transform in to Raven, she starts looking through his desk drawers but finds nothing, she notices a large painting of Trask behind his desk and finds a hidden safe under it, she manages to gain access and enters to find his personal files, including blueprints for the Sentinels, as well as autopsy reports on the mutants he's experimented on including her former friends Azazel and Angel Salvadore, as tears roll down her face Trask's secretary suddenly comes into Trask's office]
Mystique: [speaking in Trask's voice] Once second.
[Mystique now transformed into Trask again steps out of the safe]
Sectary: [she hands him a piece of paper] Oh. We added some names to the Paris meeting.
Dr. Trask: Thank you. [she looks at Trask and notices the tear rolling down his face]
Sectary: Is something wrong, sir?
Dr. Trask: [Trask quickly wipes the tear from his face]No. It's nothing. [Trask quickly wipes the tear from his face] Would you mind trying up my itinerary? I don't wanna miss anything. [his secretary nods her head, turns and walks off]
[Logan, Charles and Hank drive up to Peter Maximoff/Quicksilver's home, a mutant with superhuman speed]
Past Wolverine: Here, here, here.
Young Charles: Where?
Past Wolverine: Just stop here.
Young Charles: All right, all right.
Past Wolverine: Next time I'm driving.
Young Charles: Don't get used to it.
[they get of the car and walk over to the front door, Logan knocks on the door and his mother answers the door]
Ms. Maximoff: What's he done now? I just write you a check for whatever he took.
Past Wolverine: We just need to talk to him.
[she lets them enter]
Ms. Maximoff: Peter! The cops are here. Again.
[the three walk down to the basement where Peter is playing table tennis with himself using his powers of speed]
Quicksilver: What do you guys want? I didn't do anything. [suddenly he sits down on the couch] I've been here all day.
Past Wolverine: Just relax, Peter. We're not Cops.
Quicksilver: Of course you're not. If you were, you wouldn't be driving a rental car.
Young Charles: How did you know we've got a rental car?
Quicksilver: I checked your registration when you were walking to the door. I also had some time to kill so I went through your rental agreement. Saw you were from out of town. Are you FBI? [using his power he quickly swipes Charles' wallet and looks at Charles' card] No, you're not cops. Hey, what's with his gifted youngsters place? [he drops the card and wallet to the floor]
Young Charles: That's an old card.
Hank: He's fascinating.
Young Charles: He's a pain in the arise.
Hank: What, a teleporter?
Past Wolverine: No, he just fast. And when I knew him he wasn't so... young.
Quicksilver: Young? You're just old.
Hank: So you're not afraid to show your powers?
Quicksilver: What powers? What re you talking about? Do you see something strange here? Nothing anybody would believe if you told them. [using his power he quickly goes over to the arcade game and starts playing] So, who are you? What do you want?
Past Wolverine: We need your help, Peter.
Quicksilver: For what?
Past Wolverine: To break into a highly secured facility... and to get someone out.
Quicksilver: Prison break? That's illegal, you know.
Past Wolverine: Um... [Looks around and sees the items Peter has obviously stolen] [the three look around the room and notice all the stuff that Pete's obviously stolen] Well, only if you get caught.
Quicksilver: So, what's in it for me?
Young Charles: You, you kleptomaniac, get to break into the Pentagon. [this peaks his interest, he stops playing and turns to them]
Quicksilver: How do I know I can trust you?
Past Wolverine: Because we're just like you.
Young Charles: Show him.
[Logan raises one hand and extends his claws]
Quicksilver: That's cool, but it's disgusting.
[Logan, Charles and Hank enter the Pentagon under the guise of tourists receiving a tour guide]
Museum Tourist: Built in 1943, the Pentagon is the world's largest office building... housing more than 25, 000 military employees... stretched out over six million square feet.
Little Girl: Where's the bathroom? He always needs to pee!
Pentagon Tour Guide: Well, lucky for you, you'll have plenty to choose from. The building was constructed during the segregation so...
[Logan and Charles quickly slip away from the tour group as they reach some stairs, Hank uses a radio monitor to interfere with their signal, then as one of the guards is on his way to take a tray of food to Erik, he enters an elevator and Peter slips passed him, taps his hat off and as the guard turns he sees Peter getting duct tape out, when the elevator doors open, Peter steps out dressed in the guards uniform and carrying the tray of food, the guard has been duct taped to the elevator wall]
[in the surveillance room the TV monitors are all broadcasting regular TV]
Guy: Yeah, we're getting broadcast signal down here. What's going on?
Man: Damn it, call Maintenance, get them down here.
Museum Tourist: ...fought for captured the island of Iwo Jima from the Japanese Empire. Now, this month-long battle... included some of the fiercest fighting during World War II in the Pacific...
[Peter manages to get to the cell Erik is being held in and slides the tray of food with a note "Mind The Glass" stuck onto it into the cell then uses his power to shatters the glass and Erik climbs out ]
Young Erik: In three seconds, those doors are going to open... and 20 guards be here to shoot us.
Quicksilver: I know. That's what I'm waiting for.
Young Erik: What are you doing?
Quicksilver: I'm holding your neck so you don't get whiplash.
Young Erik: What?
[just then guards show up pointing their guns at them]
Officer: Don't move!
[holding onto Erik, Peter quickly slips passed them into the elevator, Erik looking like he's going to be sick to look at Peter who's now changed back into his own clothes]
[In the elevator in the Pentagon's prison. Quicksilver changes clothes while Erik tries to catch his breath.]
Quicksilver: It'll pass, it happens to everyone. You must've done something serious. What you do? What you do? What you do? Why did they have you in there?
Young Erik: For killing the President.
Quicksilver: Oh... [mouths quietly to the taped up guard, who undeniably understands his shock] Shit!
Young Erik: If there's one thing I'm guilty of, it's fighting for people like us.
Quicksilver: You take karate? You know karate, man?
Young Erik: I don't know karate. But I know crazy.
[Logan and Charles enter the Pentagon kitchens in which Hank has set off the fire alarm water sprinkler]
Young Charles: Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, this is a Code Red situation. We are evacuating the entire floor... so that my associate and I... can, uh, secure the prison.
[two guards walk over to them]
Officer: Who are you?
Young Charles: We're special operations, CB... FB-CID. Perhaps you didn't hear me when I first spoke... but it is imperative that you understand... we're in a complete lockdown situation. We have to get you to the third floor...
[Logan looking frustrated quickly takes down the two guards and then turns to Charles]
Past Wolverine: Oh, I'm sorry. Were you finished?]
[Charles takes the guards key]
[back in the elevator with Peter and Erik]
Quicksilver: They told me you control metal.
[Erik looks a little worried]
Young Erik: "They"?
Quicksilver: You know, my mom once knew a guy who could do that. [suddenly a thought comes across Erik's mind; back to Logan and Charles who is using the guard's key to open the elevator doors]
Young Charles: I'm sorry, I'm just not very good with violence... [sees Magneto] [just then the elevator doors open and Erik and Charles come face to face]
Young Erik: Charles? [Charles punches Erik in the face with anger] Good to see you too, old friend. And walking.
Young Charles: No thanks to you.
Young Erik: You're the last person in the world I expected to see today.
Young Charles: Believe me... I wouldn't be here if I didn't have to. If we get you out of here, we do it my way. No killing.
Young Erik: No helmet. I couldn't disobey you even if I wanted.
Young Charles: I'm never getting inside of that head again. I need your word, Erik. [Erik nods his head]
[before they can leave they are suddenly cornered by six guards in the kitchen, all aiming their guns at them]
Officer: Nobody move! Hold it right there!
Young Erik: Charles.
Officer: Don't move. Hands up, or we will shoot!
Young Erik: Freeze them, Charles.
Young Charles: I can't.
Armed Kitchen Guard: Hands up!
[Erik uses his power to manipulate the metal objects in the room and the guards start to shoot their guns]
Young Charles: No!
[just as Charles tries to stop Erik suddenly everything goes into slow motion as Peter puts on his headphones to listen to some music and runs through the whole kitchen, positioning the guards so they are either hitting each other or themselves and then moving the bullets away from the other three, once he's finished we see the guards knocking themselves out and the bullets missing Charles, Erik and Logan; to Peter as they leave the kitchen]
Past Wolverine: Thanks, kid.
[as Charles, Erik, Logan and Hank are about to board a jet]
Young Charles: Peter, thank you very, very much.
Erik: You take care. [they shake hands]
Quicksilver: Hey, I saw your flight plan in the cockpit. Why are you going to Paris?
[inside the jet Erik goes to take the newspaper in front of Logan when Logan uses his claws to hold onto the paper]
Young Erik: Imagine if they were metal.
[as Charles and Hank go to board the jet Charles throws Peter the car keys]
Young Charles: Do me a favor and return it for me.
Young Charles: And, Peter? Take it slow.
[Peter laughs; to Logan]
Young Erik: Where did they dig you up?
Past Wolverine: You're gonna find this hard to believe... but, uh, you sent me. You and Charles. From the future.
[Erik gives him a confused look]
[during the flight the silent tension is thick inside the plane with Charles staring coldly at Erik]
Young Erik: How did you lose them?
Young Charles: The treatment for my spine affects my DNA.
Young Erik: You sacrificed your powers so you could walk?!
Young Charles: I sacrificed my powers so I could sleep. [angry] What do you know about it?
Young Erik: I've lost my fair share.
Young Charles: [laughs coldly] Dry your eyes, Erik. [angry] It doesn't justify what you've done.
Young Erik: You have no idea what I've done.
Young Charles: I know you took the things that meant the most to me.
Young Erik: Well maybe you should have fought harder for them.
Young Charles: [stands up angrily] If you want a fight Erik, I will give you a fight!
Past Wolverine: Sit down!
Young Erik: Let him come. [Charles seizes Erik by the front of his shirt]
Young Charles: [pushes Erik] [in anger Charles grabs hold of Erik by the front of his shirt] You abandoned me! You took her away and you abandoned me!
Young Erik: Angel. [growing angrier as he recites the names] Azazel. Emma. Banshee. Mutant brothers and sisters, all dead! [Erik's anger almost causes the jet to decompress and it starts to fall] [Erik's anger begins to affect the plane's stability] Countless others experimented on, butchered!
Hank: [at the controls] Erik!
Young Erik: Where were you, Charles?! We were supposed to protect them! Where were you when your own people needed you?! Hiding! You and Hank! Pretending to be something you're not! You abandoned us all!
[Hank, who's piloting the jet, tries desperately to stop the jet from crashing into the ocean]
Hank: [trying to maintain control of the plane] ERIK!
[Erik relinquishes his control of the plane, allowing Hank to regain control of the plane.]
Young Erik: You abandoned us ALL!
[as Erik starts to cool off the jet heads starts to regain its balance, Charles walks over to the cockpit]
Past Wolverine: So, you were always an asshole.
Young Erik: I take it we're best buddies in the future.
Past Wolverine: I spent a lot of years trying to bring you down. bub.
Young Erik: How does that work out for you?
Past Wolverine: You're like me. You're a survivor. [Erik looks at Logan for a moment] Do you wanna pick up that shit up?
[Paris - a Vietnamese general, General Nhuan, is in a bar drinking with his comrades and Russian soldiers]
Vietnamese Guy: General, maybe you should slow down, we have a big day tomorrow.
General Nhuan: We're celebrating, captain. It's not every day you win a war, let alone against the American devils. I'm getting another bottle. [Nhuan walks over the the bar where Raven is standing keeping an eye on him, as he walks over to stand beside her she knocks her glass over and turns to face him accusingly; in French]
Mystique: Excuse me. I'm pretty sure it was my fault.
General Nhuan: You speak Vietnamese?
Mystique: I'm an interpreter. I speak many tongues.
General Nhuan: Let me buy you another drink... unless you're here with someone.
Mystique: I'm alone.
[Nhuan smiles and turns to order her a drink]
Genera; Nhuan: A bottle of Johnnie Walker please.
[In Nhuan's hotel room while he pours his drink, Raven notices his invitation for the summit in Paris on the table.]
[later Raven is in Nhuan's room and he pours them some drink, Raven notices his invitation for the summit in Paris on the table]
Mystique: You're going to the summit tomorrow?
General Nhuan: A pretty girl interested in politics.
Mystique: Looks can be deceiving.
General Nhuan: Show me more, baby. Clothes off.
[Mystique opens her coat and suddenly her body transforms into her mutant form, Nhuan watches her in shock]
[Mystique opens her coat before she slowly shifts her body into her mutant form. Nhuan watches her in shock]
Mystique: What's the matter, baby? You don't think I look pretty like this? [drops her coat and holds her foot against Nhuan's throat, knocking him unconscious. Raven then picks up Nhuan's invitation on the table and looks at his unconscious body.] [she drops her coat then holds her foot against his throat until he becomes unconscious and then picks up the invitation on the table to the summit in Paris]
[back on the plane, Erik goes over to Charles carrying a chess set]
Young Erik: Fancy game? It's been a while.
Young Charles: I'm not in the mood for games, thank you.
[Logan watches them as Erik takes glass and pours himself a drink]
Young Erik: I haven't a real slip in ten years. [he takes a sip of his drink] I didn't kill the president.
Young Charles: The bullet curved, Erik.
Young Erik: Because I as trying to save him. They took me out before I could.
Young Charles: Why would you try and save him?
Young Erik: Because he was one of us.
[Charles looks at him in surprise]
Young Charles: You must think me so foolish. We've always said they would come after us.
Young Erik: I never imagined they'd use Raven's DNA to do it.
Young Charles: When did you last see her?
Young Erik: The day I left Dallas.
[Erik takes the seat opposite Charles]
Young Charles: And how was she?
Young Erik: Strong, driven, loyal.
Young Charles: How...how was she?
Young Erik: She was...we were... [he pauses a moment before continuing] I could see why she meant so much to you. You should be proud of her, Charles. She's out there fighting for our cause.
Young Charles: Your cause. The girl I raise, she was not capable of killing.
Young Erik: You didn't raise her, you grew up with her. She couldn't stay a little girl forever, that's why she left.
Young Charles: She left because you got inside her head.
Young Erik: That's not my power. She made a choice.
Young Charles: But now we know where that choice leads, don't we? She's going to murder Trask, they're going to capture her, and then they're going to wipe us out.
Young Erik: Not if we get to her first. Not if we change history tomorrow. I'm sorry, Charles. For what happened, I truly am.
[Charles looks at Erik with tears in his eyes, he then finishes his drink and looks down at the chess set]
Young Charles: It's been a while since I've played.
Young Erik: I'll go easy on you. Might finally be a fair fight.
Young Charles: You have the first move.
[Erik looks down and moves a piece using his power]
[in Paris on the day of the summit we see a reporter outside the hotel where all the crowd have gathered]
Peace Summit Reporter: The diplomats from all around the world are arriving here today at the Hotel Royale. It's an historic day as it's the official ending of the United States' military involvement in Vietnam. There's the South Vietnamese foreign minister with other South Vietnamese dignitaries.
[inside the hotel Trask arrives with Stryker and they are being guided to his room]
Nixon Aide: The summit doesn't begin for another hour. The hotel's arranged a private room upstairs for your special guests.
Dr. Bolivar Trask: That'll be a plenty of time. [Trask and Stryker enter the room where the Vietnamese dignitaries along with other representative of communist nations are waiting] Good afternoon everyone. Hello, thank you for coming. Congratulations on winning this war. [Stryker places a folder in front of each dignitary] Now I know you all have hands to shake and photos to take downstairs so I will get right to the point. There is a new enemy out there, an enemy that will render your arsenals useless, your armies powerless and your nations defenseless. [at the same time Trask is having his meeting, the mutants drive up to the hotel building to stop Raven] You'll need a new weapon for this war. I call them Sentinels. [Stryker shows the dignitaries the blueprints] Named after the ancient guardians that stood at the gates of the Citadel. [at the same time Erik uses his power to take down the security guards and they drive past through the gates] They have the aeronautic capabilities of a Harrier jet, armed with guns that can fire off more than two thousand rounds per minute of thermo-ceramic ammunition. But size, power, speed, you could find that at Lockheed or Boeing. No, what makes the Sentinels so special is the ability to target the mutant X gene. [Trask holds up a small device] A genetic guidance system that can lock onto a mark half a mile away and won't trigger unless it's identified the target. With this weapon, there will be no human collateral damage. If I turn it on, the system couldn't even activate in here. [Trask turns on the device and it starts to beep as it picks up a mutant reading] Unless there's a mutant. [he starts pointing the device at each person in the room and it suddenly goes to it's maximum reading when pointed at General Nhuan]
[Nhuan smiles as everyone in the room looks at him accusingly]
General Nhuan: There has to be some kind of mistake.
Dr. Bolivar Trask: My machines don't make mistakes. What are you?
General Nhuan: I assure you. I...
[Nhuan stands and Stryker points his gun at him]
Dr. Bolivar Trask: No, don't shoot it.
General Nhuan: I assure you, I don't know what you're talking about.
[the men in the room go over to grab Nhuan and he suddenly turns into Raven, she takes down every man in the room before grabbing a gun and aiming it at Trask, at the same time Erik, Charles, Logan and Hank arrive to stop her]
Young Charles: Raven! [suddenly Stryker shoots his taser gun at her and she falls on the table] Raven! Raven!
[Erik uses his power to pull the tasers off of Raven and throws it onto Stryker]
[Charles goes to comfort Raven as recovers from the taser shot]
Young Charles: Raven?
Young Charles: We've come for you, Erik and I, together.
Mystique: I never thought I...I'd see you again.
[Logan looks down as Stryker, who's convulsing from the taser shot, and has a vision where Stryker is the one injecting the adamantium into his body; to Raven]
Young Charles: I'm going to keep you safe, I'm going to keep you out of their hands.
[at the same time Erik realizes that everything can be prevented if he kills Raven so he uses his power to grab the gun and aims it at her]
Young Charles: Erik, what are you doing?
Young Erik: Securing our future. Forgive me, Mystique. As long as you're out there we'll never be safe.
Mystique: Use your powers, Charles, stop him.
Young Erik: He can't.
[just as Erik is about to shoot the gun Raven jumps out the window and Hank throws himself at Erik, causing the gun to fall but a fire is still shot and the bullet follows Raven out the window and hits her in the leg as she falls to the ground]
[the distress of Logan seeing Stryker causes a rift in the future]
[back in time, the people in the crowd see Raven as she rises from her fall, she turns herself into a regular bystander, inside the hotel Hank turns into his Beast form and Logan still distressed extends his claws as he has another vision of Stryker]
Past Wolverine: Stryker!
Stryker: So that we finish what we started when we lead one day!
[in the future the distress causes Logan to extend his claws and slashing through the air, in the process he slashes kitty on the arm; to Bobby]
Magneto: Restrain him.
[back in time, Erik floats down the window and watches Raven limping away still in her human bystander form, as the bullet is still in her leg Erik uses his power to pull Raven towards him, she shifts back to her mutant form as he pulls her]
Mystique: No! Erik!
[Erik uses his power to pull the bullet out of her leg]
[back in the hotel Logan looks around him with confusion]
Past Wolverine: Where am I?
Young Charles: Huh?
Past Wolverine: How the hell did I get here?
Young Charles: What? You came to us.
Past Wolverine: Who are you?
Young Charles: Charles. [suddenly Logan grabs him] Charles Xavier!
Past Wolverine: I don't know you.
Young Charles: Huh?
[Logan notices Hank a he rises now fully transformed into his mutant form]
Past Wolverine: What the hell is that?
[calming Hank as he looks angrily at Logan]
Young Charles: Woh, woh, woh, woh, woh. I can deal with this, just go. Stop Erik!
[outside the hotel Raven looks pleadingly at Erik as he hovers the bullet above his hand]
Young Erik: I'm sorry.
[just then Hank jumps down onto Erik and tackles Erik into the nearby fountain; back inside the hotel]
Young Charles: You're Logan, that's Hank McCoy, I'm Charles Xavier. You spent the last couple of days with us. [Charles pauses as he looks at a still confused Logan for a moment] Are you on acid? Somebody gave you really bad acid. Yeah?
[back to Hank and Erik fighting in the fountain, as Hank forces Erik's under the water Erik uses his power to bring the metal items around them, including cars, towards him, this causes the crowd to panic and gives Raven a chance to escape by blending into the crowd, then Erik manages to free himself from Hank's grasp by getting metal ornaments in the fountain to grab Hank and pull him off]
[back in the hotel room; to Logan]
Young Charles: Just hold on tight, we'll get through this together.
[in the future as Kitty is still trying to keep Logan's mind in the past Bobby notices her wound]
Bobby: Oh, my God! Kitty! She's wounded pretty bad.
[back in time, Stryker manages to get the tasers off him, as he goes to escape he turns and notices Logan's claws before running off, outside the hotel Erik tries to look for Raven who's transformed into an old man, not being able to see her Erik goes off, then the remaining bystanders capture Hank in his Beast form on camera, he gets angry and runs away, frightening everyone]
[in the future Kitty manages to get Logan back on track, she looks at Magneto and Professor X]
Kitty: I got him.
[back in time Logan suddenly recognizes Charles]
Past Wolverine: Professor?
Young Charles: What happened to you?
Past Wolverine: I just saw someone who's going to bring me a lot of pain some day. Where's Raven?
Young Charles: Gone.
Past Wolverine: What?
Young Charles: We have to get out of here!
[officials, including Trask meet in the White House with President Nixon as news report of the mutants' sightings are shown on television]
Peace Summit Reporter: Yesterday, the Paris Peace Summit was rocked by the appearance of unidentified assailants, the likes of which the world has never seen. Mass hysteria has gripped the nation as people ask: Where do they come from? Will they be back? And most importantly, are they friend or foe?
News Anchor: That was London correspondent Toby Elliot reporting from the Paris Peace Summit yesterday.
President Nixon: What the hell are we dealing with here? Off the record.
Secretary of Defense: Two days ago, this man, Erik Lehnsherr, escaped from a maximum security prison inside the Pentagon. We believe that this woman, is a former associate of Lehnsherr's. They were together in Cuba, the day of the crisis in '62. He was also implicated in Kennedy's assassination. [pointing to Hank in his Beast form on the new report footage]
President Nixon: What about that thing?
US Army General: We don't know what that thing is, sir. Actually, we really don't know what any of them are.
Dr. Bolivar Trask: Yes. Yes, we do. They're mutants. [referring to Erik] He has the power to control metal. Last I checked, that's what most of your weapons were made of. [referring to Raven] And she can transform into anyone. A general, a secret service man, even you, Mr. President. She could walk into this office and order a nuclear strike if she was in the mood, and that's only two of them.
President Nixon: Well, do we have any countermeasures, any defense?
Dr. Bolivar Trask: I was waiting for you to ask me that question.
[Trask places his Sentinel program folder in front of Nixon]
Secretary of Defense: That is an experimental program, sir, strictly off the books.
[Nixon looks through the folder]
President Nixon: You're telling me these mutants are out in the world and our best defense are these giant metal robots?
Dr. Bolivar Trask: Many of the mutants looks like us. My Sentinels can tell the difference. I have eight prototypes ready to go. They're built out of a space age polymer, not an ounce of metal on them.
President Nixon: I want to make a demonstration, I want the world to know that we can protect them. What do you need to get these things operational?
Dr. Bolivar Trask: I already gave that number to Congress. Unfortunately, they elected to shut me down. It's going to cost a bit more to turn them on.
President Nixon: Whatever you need.
Dr. Bolivar Trask: Oh, and one more thing. [he points to the footage of Raven on the new report] If we do manage to capture them, I would like her, for research purposes of course.
[Raven, in her human form, is in a French hospital having her leg wound seen to by a nurse, the TV is on in the background showing the news report of the mutants' sightings]
French Emergency Nurse: [subtitled] Terrible thing.
Raven: [subtitled] What is?
French Emergency Nurse: [subtitled] Being born like that.
Raven: [subtitled] Is it
French Emergency Nurse: [subtitled] Can you imagine, looking in the mirror and seeing that staring back at you?
[Raven replies in English]
Raven: Yes, I can.
French Emergency Nurse: [subtitled] Where do you think she comes from? You think she has a family?
Raven: Yes. She does.
[sat in his room, Erik looks through the Sentinel Program blueprints, the TV is showing more news reports about the mutant sightings and shows a scientist finding Raven's blood on the street and a sample being taken, later as Erik goes to catch a train as he passes an old man begging suddenly the old man grabs him and drags him into a corner, he transforms into Raven]
Raven: If I see so much as a screw, I will jam this into your throat.
[she holds a knife against his throat]
Young Erik: How did you find me?
Raven: You taught me well.
Young Erik: It's been a long time since we were this close. I missed you.
Raven: You tried to kill me.
Young Erik: So the rest of us could live.
Raven: What do you mean?
Young Erik: We received a message from the future.
Raven: Don't lie to me.
Young Erik: I never have and I never will. Humans use your blood, your genes to create a weapon that wipes us all out. I was only doing what I thought necessary to secure our future.
Raven: So what's to stop me from killing you right now and securing my future?
Young Erik: Nothing. It doesn't matter anymore, they have your DNA. Your blood was on the street.
Raven: Whose fault was that?
Young Erik: Mine. I've seen their plans. They're creating a weapon and now they have what they need to take it further. We have to strike now, while we still hold the upper hand.
Raven: I've seen too many friends die, Erik. I don't want a war. I only want the man who murdered them.
Young Erik: This is war. What happened to you? Did you lose your way while I was gone? Are you still Charles' Raven, or are you Mystique?
Raven: Trask is the enemy.
Young Erik: Killing one man isn't enough.
Raven: It never was for you. Goodbye, Erik.
[she turns and walks off, Erik goes to follow after her but she's disappeared into the crowd]
[as they return to Charles' mansion he suddenly falls down]
Past Wolverine: What happened?
[Hank goes to help Charles to his feet]
Hank: Come on, up.
Past Wolverine: Why can't he walk?
Hank: He need his treatment.
[as Charles is losing his ability to walk he starts regaining his telepathic powers]
Young Charles: It's okay, I'll make it stop. I'll get it.
[Hank runs up the stairs to get the injection, Charles looks in deep distress]
Past Wolverine: Hey, hey, pull yourself together. It's not over yet.
Young Charles: [reading Logan's mind] You don't believe that.
Past Wolverine: How do you know?
Young Charles: [pointing to his legs] As these go... [pointing to his head] ...this comes back. They all come back!
Past Wolverine: Look, I'm...I'm still here. She's still out there. But we need your help, Charles. Not like this, I need you. We can't find Raven, not without your powers.
[Hank comes back with the injection]
Hank: I added a little extra cause you missed a dose. [he gives the needle to Charles]
Past Wolverine: Charles.
[Charles looks at Logan and just as he's about to inject himself he decides against it and puts the injection down]
Young Charles: Hank, do me a favor. Would you help me to my study, please?
Hank: Alright. [Hank helps Charles walk over to his study, he then opens the closet door] Are you sure about this?
Young Charles: Absolutely not.
[they look at Charles' wheelchair]
[looking at Raven's blood under the microscope]
Dr. Bolivar Trask: This creature is extraordinary. Her genes could hold the key to mutation itself. I need more.
Major William Stryker: That's all they were able to scrape off the pavement in Paris.
Dr. Bolivar Trask: More than blood. I need brain tissue, spinal fluid, bone marrow. Imagine Sentinels that could transform, adapt to any target. If I could just get my hands on her. This girl, could leap the program forward years, decades into the future. How old is your son now, Major?
Major William Stryker: Jason? He's coming up on ten now if you can believe it.
Dr. Bolivar Trask: Eight years from fighting age. And how many of our sons and brothers did we just ship home in body bags? Maybe fifty... fifty-five thousand. And how many more on the other side? Never before in all of human history has there been a cause which could unite us as a species, until now.
Major William Stryker: You really hate mutants, doctor, don't you?
Dr. Bolivar Trask: On the contrary, I rather admire them. The things they can do. I see mutants as our salvation.
Major William Stryker: A common enemy.
Dr. Bolivar Trask: A common struggle against the ultimate enemy: Extinction. I believe our new friends are going to help us usher in a new era, Bill. [as the Sentinels are being shipped off we see Erik sneaking into Trask Industries]
Speakers: Attention, attention. Transport departure in two hours. Repeat, transport departure in two hours.
[Charles, now in is wheelchair, Logan and Hank make their way towards the entrance to Cerebro]
Past Wolverine: When was the last time you were down here?
Hank: The last time we went looking for students.
Young Charles: A lifetime ago.
[Charles's eyes get scanned at the doorway]
Computer: Welcome, Professor.
[the doors opens and they enter inside making their way towards Cerebro, Hank turns on the equipment]
Hank: Raven's wounded, she won't be moving fast.
[Charles picks up the Cerebro and blows off the dust off of it]
Young Charles: These are muscles I haven't stretched in a long time. [he puts Cerebro on his head and instantly sees and hears the call of other mutants which overwhelms him] God!
[the frantic call of the mutants start to really overwhelm Charles and he loses focus]
Past Wolverine: Charles!
[suddenly not being able to handle it Charles causes the Cerebro equipment to break down]
[Charles takes Cerebro off his head]
Hank: Charles! Charles, it's alright. I'll go check the generator.
[Hank turns and leaves]
Past Wolverine: It's not the machinery, is it?
Young Charles: I can't do this, my mind...
Past Wolverine: Yes, you can.
Young Charles: It won't take it.
Past Wolverine: You're just a little rusty.
Young Charles: You don't understand, it's not a question of being rusty. I can flip the switches, I can turn the knobs, but my power comes from here, it comes from... [he touches his head and goes to point to his heart] And it's broken. I felt like one of my students, helpless. It was a mistake coming down here. It was a mistake freeing Erik. This whole thing has been one bloody mistake! [Charles turns his chair and starts to leave] I'm sorry, Logan, but they sent back the wrong man.
Past Wolverine: You're right. I am.
[Charles stops by the doors and Logan walks towards him]
Past Wolverine: Actually it was supposed to be you. But I was the only one who could physically make the trip. And uh...I don't know how long I've got here, but I do know that a long time...actually, a long time from now, I was your most helpless student, and you unlocked my mind. You showed me what I was, you showed me what I could be. I don't know how to do that for you. You're right, I don't. But I know someone who might. [Charles looks confused] Look into my mind.
Young Charles: You saw what I did to Cerebro. You don't want me inside your head.
Past Wolverine: There's no damage you can do that hasn't already been done, trust me.
[Charles touches his fingers to Logan's head and enters his mind, he sees Logan's memories of Stryker experimenting on him, meeting Jean Grey, falling in love with her and then having to kill her]
Young Charles: You, poor, poor, man.
Past Wolverine: Look past me.
Young Charles: No, I don't want your suffering, I don't want your future!
Past Wolverine: Look past my future, look for your future. [Charles starts to focus again] That's it. That's it. That's it.
[as Charles goes deeper into Logan's memories he wakes to finds himself in the future lying down in Logan's position, he rises and sees his older self, Magneto, Kitty and Bobby, he walks over to his older self who suddenly senses Charles]
Professor X: Charles?
Young Charles: Charles.
[Professor X opens his eyes and looks straight at his younger self]
Young Charles: So this is what becomes of us? Erik was right. Humanity does this to us.
Professor X: Not if we show them a better path.
Young Charles: You still believe?
Professor X: Just because someone stumbles, loses their way, it doesn't mean they're lost forever. Sometimes we all need a little help.
Young Charles: Oh, I'm not the man I was. I open my mind and it almost overwhelms me.
Professor X: You're afraid, and Cerebro knows it.
Young Charles: All those voices, so much pain.
Professor X: It's not their pain you're afraid of, it's yours, Charles. And as frightening as it may be, that pain will make you stronger. If you allow yourself to feel it, embrace it, it will make you more powerful than you ever imagined. It's the greatest gift we have, to bear their pain without breaking, and it's born from the most human power: Hope. [a vision of his young mutant students at X-Mansion is shown] Please. Charles, we need you to hope again.
[at that moment Charles leaves Logan's memories]
Past Wolverine: Find what you were looking for?
[just then the power comes back on and Hank walks over to them]
Hank: Power's back on.
Young Charles: Yes. Yes, it is.
[after sneaking into Trask Industries Erik has boarded the train that is transporting the Sentinels he manipulates the train tracks and inserts them into the Sentinels; in the future Bobby tends to Kitty's wound]
Bobby: She's lost too much blood. She can't keep going like this.
Magneto: We have no choice, Bobby.
Bobby: We can wake him up.
Professor X: No! They need more time. I had a glimpse into the past. If we wake Logan now, we may set off an even darker course. They need more time.
[we see Raven sitting at an airport as she waits to board a plane, suddenly a woman sitting behind looks at her]
Female Traveler: Raven, stop. Stop running.
Raven: Charles? Where are you?
Female Traveler: Back at the house...
[we see Charles is using Cerebro to communicate with Raven]
Young Charles: ...where you should be. I need you to come home.
Raven: I know what I need to do.
[Raven gets up and walks away from the woman, as she walks off Charles continues to communicate to her via another traveler]
Blue Suit Traveler: If you kill Trask, you'll be creating countless more just like him.
Raven: Then I'll kill them too.
[Charles replies via another traveler as Raven continues to walk away]
Airport Backpacker: Those are Erik's words, not yours.
[suddenly Raven bumps into a flight attendant and drops her ticket, as the attendant goes to pick up the ticket Charles communicates to Raven through her]
Flight Attendant: The girl I grew up with wasn't capable of killing. She was good, fair, full of compassion.
Raven: I have compassion, just not for Trask. He's murdered too many of us.
Past Wolverine: Shut her down, Charles. Get in her head.
Young Charles: She's not letting me in. I'm barely holding on, I'm not strong enough yet. [as Raven is walking through the airport she suddenly stops as she spots Charles standing ahead of her] I know what Trask has done, but killing him will not bring them back. It will set you on a path from which there is no return. An endless cycle of killing, us and them, till there is nothing left. But we can stop it, right now, you and I. You just have to come home.
Raven: I have to? You haven't changed at all, Charles. Like I said, I know exactly what I have to do.
[she walks straight through Charles as he disappears; Charles takes Cerebro off his head]
Past Wolverine: Where is she?
Young Charles: She's in an airport, boarding a plane.
Past Wolverine: A plane to where?
[Charles looks into the flight attendant's memories who had looked at Raven's ticket when she had bumped into her]
Charles: Washington, D.C.
Hank: Alright, guys. There's something I need to show you. [Hank takes Charles and Logan to his room where he's hooked up TV monitors to old looking computers] This the system I designed to record any news about Paris, over all three networks and PBS.
Past Wolverine: [sarcastically] All three? Wow.
Hank: Yeah, and PBS. Look what I found.
[he plays recorded footage of a news report]
News Reporter: Tomorrow in front of the White House, the President will make his announcement. He'll be joined by Secretary of Defense Laird and has even sought the help of renowned scientist Bolivar Trask, he's special adviser to combat this mutant issue. The White House has asked...
[Hank stops the recording]
Young Charles: Raven doesn't realize that if she kills Trask at an event like that with the whole world watching...
Past Wolverine: Then I came a long way for nothing.
Hank: And there's more bad news. I saw the report, they found traces of her blood in Paris. For all we know, they already have her DNA, which is all they'd need...
Past Wolverine: To create the Sentinels of the future.
Hank: Now there's a theory in Quantum Physics that time is immutable. It's like a river, you can throw a pebble into it, create a ripple, but the current always corrects itself. No matter what you do, the river just keeps flowing in the same direction.
Past Wolverine: What are you trying to say?
Hank: What I'm saying is, what if the war is inevitable? What if she's meant to kill Trask? What if this is just simply who she is?
[just then Charles remembers his older self's words]
Young Charles: Just because someone stumbles, loses their way, doesn't mean they're lost forever. [Charles smiles to himself] No, I don't believe that theory, Hank. And I cannot believe that that is who she is. Ready the plane, we're going to Washington.
[at Pentagon, Erik infiltrates the building and using two metal ball bearings takes out the guards and then retrieves his helmet; on the plane to Washington Logan notices Charles touching his leg]
Past Wolverine: You alright?
Young Charles: Getting there.
Past Wolverine: Xavier: Getting there.
Past Wolverine: Whatever happens today, I need you to promise me something. You looked into my mind and you've seen a lot of bad, but you've seen the good too.The X-Men. Promise me you'll find us. Use your power, bring us together. Guide us, lead us. Storm, Scott, Jean. Remember those names. There's so many of us. We will need you, Professor.
Young Charles: I'll do my best.
Past Wolverine: Your best is enough, trust me.
[back in the future whilst standing guard Warpath notices the pods carrying the Sentinels making their way to the monastery]
Warpath: There's twelve carriers inbound, ten miles!
[inside the monastery; to Magneto]
Professor X: They found us.
[Magneto looks at Logan's unconscious body which Kitty is still linked to and then walks out]
[in the past we see footage of news report of the gathering at the White House]
White House Lawn Reporter: Thousands of people will be gathered here today. They've come from all over the world to witness history. Along with news crews from at least fifty different countries.
[at security everyone is being checked through a metal detector, as Hank wheels Charles though the detector beeps]
White House Ticket Man: Can I see your invitations, please?
Young Charles: Yes, you may. [Charles uses his power to make the ticket man believe they have tickets] These two are with me.
White House Ticket Man: Go ahead.
Young Charles: Thank you. [Hank wheels Charles off, Logan then steps through the metal detector and smiles to himself when it doesn't beep] Logan.
[Logan walks off to join Charles and Hank]
White House Ticket Man: Please, this way, sir.
[Charles uses his power to try and find Raven in the crowd gathered in front of the White House waiting for the President to give his speech]
Young Charles: Haven't found her yet, but she has to be here.
Presenter: The President of the United States.
[Nixon walks up to the podium as the crowd cheers]
President Nixon: My fellow Americans, today, we face the greatest threat in our history: Mutants. [Charles continues to search for Raven using his power] We have prepared for this threat. In the immortal words of Robert Oppenheimer, "Behold. The world will never be the same again."
[he points to the giant flags behind him which unveil to reveal the Sentinels, as the crowd cheers we see Raven disguised as a Secret Service agent]
[Erik, wearing his Magneto costume and helmet, floats down into RFK Stadium]
Grounds Keeper: Can I help you?
Young Erik: No, you can't. [using his powers Erik lifts the stadium up; back in the future Magneto joins the other mutants guarding the monastery as the pods carrying the Sentinels appear]
Warpath: Here they come.
[in the past, Charles who's continuing to locate Raven suddenly hears her thoughts]
Raven: This is for you, brothers and sisters.
[he locates her and sees her disguised as a Secret Service agent]
Young Charles: Raven! [as she goes to grab her gun she hears Charles and hesitates; to Logan and Hank] I have her!
Raven: Let me go, Charles!
[Charles points the body of the Secret Service agent Raven is disguised as]
Young Charles: There, see? Secret Service man, left of the stage.
Past Wolverine: Got it.
Young Charles: Go!
[as Erik is floating the entire RFK Stadium towards the White House suddenly the Sentinels become activated]
Dr. Bolivar Trask: What the hell are you doing? I didn't tell you to activate them!
Major William Stryker: I didn't.
[as Erik gets nearer the Sentinels rise and the crowd cheers, Logan and Hank make their way towards Raven as Charles continues to reason with her through her mind]
Young Charles: Raven, please listen to me. We've been given a second chance to define who we are. Don't do this.
Raven: I'm not Raven anymore.
[a guard comes over to Logan and Hank as they walk towards to the stage]
White House Stage Guard: Gentlemen, you cannot pass this point.
[back in the future as the Sentinel pods get closer Bishop turns to Storm]
Bishop: We can't stop that many.
Storm: No, but we can slow them down.
[at the same time in the past the Sentinels float over the crowd then stop and Erik makes one of them start shooting at a police car, the crowd panics and makes a run for it]
Young Charles: Erik!
[back in the future Storm rises and starts to manipulate the weather to stall the Sentinels]
[Storm electrocutes Bishop so that he can absorb the power and uses it to blast kinetic energy at the Sentinels; in the past as everyone flees, the Secret Service take Nixon, Trask, and Stryker into the safe room in the White House, unaware that Raven is among them]
Secretary of Defense: Take us to Defcon 3! Mr. President, we are code red. Once our air defense readies... [turning to Trask]
President Nixon: What the hell happened out there?
Dr. Bolivar Trask: I will fix it.
President Nixon: You damn well better!
[we see Raven disguised as the Secret Service Agent grabbing his gun from inside his jacket]
[back in the future Magneto, with Storm's help, send the X-jet into the pod to explode, throwing hundreds of Sentinels down; at the same time in the past Erik floats the RFK Stadium above the White House and the Sentinels go over to join him]
Past Wolverine: Charles!
[suddenly Erik drops the stadium down circling the White House, nearly crushing Charles, and dispatches the Sentinel around the stadium to stand guard; back in the future after Magneto has sent down the Sentinel]
Storm: Is everybody okay?
[Magneto looks down and sees he's been stabbed in his stomach by a piece of metal which he takes out, then suddenly a Sentinel jumps from behind the walls and impales Storm from behind and throws her over the edg of the cliff, they then attack Bishop who blows himself up, as the Sentinel continue to attack, Magneto is sent back inside the monastery with Blink's help]
[in the past Logan and Hank look at one of the Sentinals that is standing guard inside the stadium surrounding the White House]
Hank: I'm probably not supposed to ask this kind of thing, but in the future, do I make it?
Past Wolverine: No. But we can change that, right?
[angry Hank changes into his Beast form, Erik notices Logan and Beast and turns to the Sentinel standing guard]
Young Erik: Do what you were made for. [the Sentinel turns to Logan and Hank and starts shooting at them, Erik uses this opportunity to try and locate the safe room which Nixon and the others have been taken to] Where are you?
[as Logan tries to fight of the Sentinel Beast jumps on top of it]
Beast: I got this! Go!
[Beast Sentinel's fuel line while as Logan goes after Erik]
[as Logan approaches Erik he throws anything with metal attached to it as Logan, but he fights his way through, Erik then gets a block with rebars and wraps it through Logan's body, causing Logan in the future to nearly break the link with Kitty]
Professor X: Oh, dear God, no.
[in the past Erik makes Logan rise and float making him yell in pain]
Young Erik: So much for being a survivor.
[he then throws Logan into the Potomac River, causing extreme distress to Logan in the future]
[inside the safe room as Raven waits to attack Trask suddenly he hears his small device beeping, he takes it out of his pocket and turns to Nixon]
Dr. Bolivar Trask: One of them is in here.
[suddenly Raven points her gun to shoot]
[everyone points their guns at Raven still disguised as the Secret Service Agent]
Dr. Bolivar Trask: No, no, no, no! Don't kill it! I need it alive.
[just then Erik starts to pull the the safe room out of the White House]
President Nixon: What the hell is happening?
[Erik pulls the safe room out of the White House and it lands on the lawn in front of Erik, he pulls apart the door, floats all their guns into the air then turns all the live news cameras toward him and gives a speech]
Young Erik: You built these weapons to destroy us. Why? Because you are afraid of our gifts. Because we are different. Humanity has always feared that which is different. Well, I'm here to tell you, to tell the world, you're right to fear us. We are the future. [back in the future the Sentinels kill Colossus by ripping him in two and Warpath burnt alive; in the past Quicksilver is watching the TV as Erik gives his speech] We are the ones who will inherit this earth, and anyone who stands in our way will suffer the same fate as these men you see before you. Today was meant to be a display of your power. Instead I give you a glimpse of the devastation my race can unleash upon yours. Let this be a warning to the world. [as Erik gives his speech we see sunspot being killed by the Sentinels; in the past Ink and Toad watch Erik giving his speech on the TV] And to my mutant brothers and sisters out there, I say this; no more hiding, no more suffering. You have lived in the shadows in shame and fear for too long. Come out, join me. Fight together in the brotherhood of our kind. A new tomorrow, that starts today.
[in the future we see Blink being impaled by three Sentinels at once, inside the monastery the wounded Magneto looks at Professor X]
Magneto: All those years wasted fighting each other, Charles. To have a precious few of them back.
[he extends his hand to Professor X and they hold each other's hand, suddenly they hear the explosions outside, Bobby uses his power to freeze the front door to give them more time; back in the past Nixon walks out of the safe room to approach Erik]
Secretary of Defense: Mr. President! Sir!
[his men grab him to stop him]
President Nixon: Stand down! [he walks faces Erik and points at him] You want to make a statement? Kill me? Fine! But spare everyone else!
[inside the safe room Trask looks to his left and we see the real Nixon standing next to him]
[as Hank is fighting the Sentinels, he notices Nixon talking to Erik, he stabs himself with several injections to revert himself to his human form]
Young Erik: Very heroic, Mr. President. But you have no intention of sparing any of us. The future of our species begins now. [Erik points the floating guns at Nixon, then as one of the Sentinels goes to grab Hank he reverts back to his human form so the Sentinel backs off, instead it looks across at Erik and Nixon and it sees both as being mutant so it makes a run towards them, but Erik pulls it apart, at that moment Nixon takes out his gun, shoots Erik, which grazes his neck and then Nixon transforms into Raven] You used to be a better shot.
Raven: Trust me, I still am.
[after knocking Erik out, Raven turns and points her gun at Trask but suddenly everything freezes and she sees Charles appears by the safe room]
Raven: Get out of my head, Charles!
Young Charles: Raven. Please, do not make us the enemy today.
Raven: Look around you, we already are!
Young Charles: Not all of us. [Hank goes over to Charles, who's lying injured under some fallen debris from the stadium, he's communicating with Raven through her mind] All you've done so far is save the lives of these men. You can show them a better path.
Hank: Shut her down, Charles.
Young Charles: I've been trying to control you ever since the day we met and look what that's got us. Everything that happens now is in your hands. I have faith in you, Raven.
[Charles unfreezes everyone and Raven continues to point her gun at Trask, in the future Bobby gets killed by the Sentinels as they enter the monastery and just as the Sentinels are about to kill Professor X, Magneto, Kitty and Logan in the past Raven drops her gun and everyone in the future disappears]
[Raven takes off Erik's helmet as lies unconscious and walks away]
Raven: He's all yours, Charles.
[Charles then makes Erik open his eyes, rise and then manipulates him into removing the metal bars off him so Hank can help him up]
Young Erik: If you let them have me, I'm as good as dead. You know that.
Young Charles: I know.
Young Erik: Goodbye, old friend.
Young Charles: Goodbye, Erik.
[Erik looks at Raven for a moment before floating away, Raven then turns and looks at Charles and Hank before turning to walk away]
Hank: You sure you should let them go?
Young Charles: Yes, I have hope for them. There's going to be a time, Hank, when we are all together.
[we see Raven transforming into a soldier and walks away]
Hank: What about Logan?
[Logan wakes up in the future in a room in the Mutant Academy, he steps outside and sees Bobby with Rogue, he then sees Kitty teaching a class with Colossus, then the older Hank in his Beat form greets Logan as he passes him]
Beast - older: Good morning, Logan. Late start.
[he laughs as he walks off, Logan smiles then walks down stairs and notices Storm talking to some students]
Storm: Have a good lunch. Good job.
Student: Thank you.
Wolverine: [to himself] Storm.
[as Logan walks over to Professor X's office he sees Jean standing by the door]
[she turns and looks at him]
Jean Grey: Hi, Logan.
[Logan walks over to her]
Jean Grey: Are you okay?
Wolverine: Logan: You're here.
Jean Grey: Where else would I be?
[Logan goes to touch her face when suddenly his hand is grabbed by Scott Summers]
Scott Summers: Woh! Easy, pal.
Wolverine: Well some things never change. Good to see you, Scott.
[Logan puts his hand on Scott's shoulder]
Scott Summers: Uh-huh. See you later, Jean. Okay.
[Scott turns and walks off]
[Logan sees the Professor in his office]
Jean Grey: Logan, is everything alright?
Wolverine: Yeah. Yeah, I think it is.
[Jean turns and walks off, Logan steps into Professor X's office]
Wolverine: You did it.
Professor X: Did what? Logan, don't you have a class to teach?
Wolverine: A class to teach?
Professor X: Yeah, history.
Wolverine: History? Actually, I could use some help with that.
Professor X: Help with what?
Wolverine: Well, pretty much everything after 1973. I think the history I know is a little different.
[the Professor gives him a knowing look]
Professor X: Welcome back.
Wolverine: It's good to see you, Charles. It's good to see everyone.
Professor X: Well...I had a promise to keep. You and I have a lot of catching up to do.
Professor X: What's the last thing you remember?
[last lines; back in the past we see Logan being pulled out of the water by the river cops]
Young Charles: [voice over] The past, a new and uncertain world.
[one of the cops is reading a newspaper which has the headings "Mutant Save President and Cabinet", "Sentinel Program Cancelled" and "Trask Arrested For Selling Military Secrets"]
Young Charles: [voice over] A world of endless possibilities and infinite outcomes.
[the cops looks at Logan]
Potomac River Cop #1: Isn't he?
[Logan's eyes flutter]
Potomac River Cop #1: Oh, he's alive!
[Logan opens his eyes and coughs up water, we then see Stryker on the boat looking at him and smiling]
Young Charles: [voice over] Countless choices define our fate. Each choice, each moment, a ripple in the river of time.
Potomac River Cop #2: What do you want us to do with him, Major Stryker?
Young Charles: [voice over] Enough ripples and you change the tide.
Major William Stryker: I'll take him from here.
[Stryker smiles to himself and his eyes change, we see that it's Raven in disguise]
Young Charles: [voice over] For the future is never truly set.
[post-credits scene; we see hundreds of people in a desert chanting to En Sabah Nur as he uses his telekinesis powers to construct pyramids with the four horsemen keeping watch nearby]
